Move More

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle and can help prevent chronic diseases. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity.

Eat Smart

From supersized meals to soda, chips, and candy, our nation has lost sight of fueling our bodies with fresh, nutritious foods. Proper nutrition must accompany regular physical activity habits to achieve overall health.

Create a Supportive Environment

Creating an environment that truly supports health is a long-term project that requires real dedication to wellness values and a lot of sustained hard work. Organizations that can commit to creating a supportive environment include: municipal and elected officials, schools, businesses, churches, service clubs and more.

ACTIVATE Chester County is a collaboration among hospitals, health and wellness organizations, school districts, municipalities, and YMCAs across Chester County that are working together to improve the overall health of residents here. Responding to ballooning obesity rates and other national health crises manifesting here concerned citizens and leaders created ACTIVATE Chester County in 2005.Healthy Eating Boy
Throughout the United States, the number of adults and children classified as overweight or obese has tripled, largely due to inactivity and poor nutrition choices. Chester County has been impacted as well.
These unhealthy lifestyle habits contribute to illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and some cancers. The Centers for Disease Control reports that unless our citizens act to correct this crisis, society will be unable to withstand the human and economic toll.

ACTIVATE in Action
The good news is that obesity-related diseases are preventable when individuals adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and proper nutrition. ACTIVATE Chester County has spearheaded community initiatives to promote health including:
  • Strengthening school-based wellness programs
  • Implementing wellness programs
  • Advocating for sidewalks and trails
  • Helping to organize community walks and other community health events
  • Attaining youth involvement in ACTIVATE groups
